To sit alongside our range of supply only aluminium concertina doors and aluminium windows, we also supply aluminium sliding doors. Whilst everybody’s requirements are different, there are a couple of advantages aluminium sliding doors have over bifolds – especially through the colder months.
To start with, our glass and glazing systems offer some of the lowest U-values available. Our double glazed system with thermal coating achieves almost the same performance as many triple glazed systems. Our thermal glass ensures that heat remains inside the room in the colder months, whilst reflecting the heat back outside in the summer. This ensures you stay comfortable all year round and keeps your heating bills low. NOW Aluminium sliding panels can support more glass than our bifolds, meaning that for the same opening aperture, a sliding door system will have more glass and less frame than a bifold system. Given an aluminium frame is not as efficient as a glass system, this results in a sliding door system being more thermally efficient.
Given the UK climate, bifolding and sliding doors tend to remain closed throughout the winter months – meaning the bifold frame separating the glass panels is visible. As mentioned, sliding doors have less frame than bifolding doors, so more aesthetically pleasing when closed and allowing more light inside the home.
